Schools Workshops

At Create we specialise in combining art and drama to encourage creative thinking within primary education. Our series of workshops ignite pupils interest when studying curriculum subjects such as literacy, history, religious and cultural topics.

Workshops cover foundation level to KS2 and are delivered in a 'hands on' approach. Workshops include puppet making, art, drama, storytelling, costumes, music and much more.

Workshops can be delivered to one class or a whole school, the choice is yours!

Saxons

The Anglo-Saxons

Our inspiration for this workshop comes from the famous Bayeux Tapestry. In our art workshop children will use the historic battle story to recreate their own version, making panels in groups using fabric and inks. Our drama workshop explores the story further using a ‘freeze frame’ technique to show scenes from the famous tale.

Aztecs

The Aztecs

This colourful workshop explores the various Aztecs gods and Ancient Aztec traditions. During our art workshop pupils will use collage, paint and construction techniques to design and make masks inspired by the elements and nature. Our drama workshop continues with the god theme and incorporates percussion instruments and poetry to create short pieces based on the gods.

Egyptians

The Ancient Egyptians

For this much loved historical topic our workshop takes children on an imaginative journey back in time to Ancient Egypt to meet Pharaoh's and local village people. They will use role-play, costumes and props to portray various situations common of that time. Our art workshop visually explores life on the Nile and pupils experiment with drawing, painting and collage to create giant fabric maps.

Greeks

The Greeks

Using Greek Mythology as our inspiration, children will create theatrical masks that represent mythical characters and show expression. Pupils learn about cardboard construction and how to create finished masks that could be used during the workshop. Our drama workshop uses mime, music and movement to create short theatre pieces exploring these mythical tales further.

Pirates

Pirates

This lively, colourful workshop is full of action as children learn pirate jigs, songs and stories incorporated with costumes, music, props and poetry. Stories will also focus on infamous pirates. The out come is perfect for a short assembly piece. Our art workshops can focus on 3D pirate boat building or creating 'Pirate Ship Battle' murals to display in your school.

Romans

The Romans

Children will dress up in costumes and use props to act out in group's scenes typical of a Roman citizen. They will be encouraged to use role-play and improvisation to act out their scenes. Our art workshop uses the idea of mosaics in coloured card to design and create large pictures done in groups showing Roman gods, gladiator scenes and daily life.

Tudors

The Great Fire of London

We go back to 1666 for this history workshop. Pupils will be introduced to Samuel Pepys and use role-play and props with costume to recreate scenes before and during the great fire. In our art workshop children will have fun designing their own ‘Tudor’ style street, typical of the time using boxes, paint and collage. Then recreate an effect of the epic burning buildings.

Victorians

The Victorians

For our Victorian workshop children meet a Florence Nightingale dressed character and get the opportunity for a Q&A session! Pupils will then use costume, props and role-play to act out scenes from her life and learn how it was in a Victorian hospital. Our art workshop uses collage and extracts from her journals to create large group portraits of the famous ‘Lady of The Lamp’.

Doctor Suess

Dr. Suess

This wonderfully wacky world is great inspiration for this art and drama combined workshop for young pupils. Children will create their own ‘Suess’ props using card and paint, exploring pattern and colour. These can be used during the drama workshop to enhance the acting and movement of the pupils whilst they are creating hilarious short sketches based on some of the classic Dr Suess stories and characters.

The Enchanted Garden

The Enchanted Garden

Step into a world where the garden comes to life in this magical workshop for Key Stage 1 & 2. Children will use card, paint and collage to make costumes and giant scenery to turn their classroom into the Enchanted Garden. Our drama element to the workshop incorporates song, rhyme and movement to explore garden creatures and the sounds they make and put on a mini performance.

The Gruffalo

The Gruffalo

Follow Mouse through the ‘Deep Dark Woods’ on a fun drama adventure, using role-play, improvisation and storytelling. Children will explore all the beauties and dangers of the woods as we meet with Owl, Fox, Snake and of course the Gruffalo. With games, song, imaginative play and character mask making, this is a wonderful experience for all those who are fans of this delightful tale.

The Rainbow Fish

The Rainbow Fish

This colourful and moral story is the inspiration for this Key Stage 1 workshop. Pupils will use card, fabric, collage and paint to make puppets similar to the sparkly Rainbow Fish. In our drama workshop the children will meet Bubbles the Mermaid and go with her on an imaginative adventure exploring language, colour and movement. Children also learn poems and songs whilst learning the stories underlying theme of friendship.

‘Roald Dahl Revolting Rhymes’

This twist on our most loved classic stories is Roald Dahl at his best and gives children great amusement! This exciting puppet workshop gets children working in groups to make one of the characters from the stories using junk, fabric, card and wool to use in a short sketch that could be shown in an assembly.

The Story of the Rainbow

The Story of the Rainbow

A colorful explosion of creativity through puppetry! Pupils make their own puppets based on characters from this poem of how the rainbow was created; a Dragon from the Emerald Green Mountains, a Mermaid of the Deep Blue Sea, a Princess from the Golden City or a King from the Purple Palace. Once the puppets have been created, we will then showcase our creations and bring our puppets to life in a fantastic puppet show. Something that could be performed in assembly.

The Aboriginies

We introduce pupils to ancient Aboriginal tales and legends during this workshop and use these as inspiration to create beautiful, vibrant murals for your classrooms. Pupils will learn about the importance of animals and nature in the Aboriginal artwork and their use of colour and pattern. Our drama workshop focuses on legends that reflect the land and its people and pupils will act and use role-play to create short sketches.

Recycling Renegades

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! That's the motto pupils will take on as they become interviewers to create their own ‘Green Super Heroes’ TV Campaign! In our art workshop children will be inspired to create artwork to be displayed around the school using recycled materials that they have brought into school.

Mola Art from Central America

Mola Art from Central America

Pupils will learn about the vibrant and colourful patterns of the Kuna Tribe from Panama, Central America. During the workshop pupils will design a pattern based around nature, such as animals and plants. These designs will then be worked into a larger mural using paints, inks and collage on fabric. The finished artwork can be displayed as a large art exhibition for your school.

The Landscapes of Hundertwasser

The Landscapes of Hundertwasser

This colourful workshop will introduce pupils to the world of Friedensreich Hundertwasser, the Austrian born painter. Pupils will work in groups to design their own version of their school and playground using Hundertwasser's ideas. He believed everything should be beautiful in our environment and there should be no space for ugliness! Working with organic shapes and bright colours, children will design an 'alternative' school environment using paints and inks board. The final result will be a set of amazing murals to be displayed around the school.

The Goldfish Bowl Sculpture Workshop

Using wire, beads and collage paper, pupils will create their own wire sculpture inspired by ‘The Goldfish Bowl’, a well loved sculpture by artist Alexander Calder. Pupils will learn how to manipulate the wire and work in pairs to hold and secure parts together. As their main shape begins to form they will get an understanding of volume and 3Dimensional space. To complete their sculpture they will create tiny fish and creatures to suspend in their tanks! This is a hand's on 3D workshop.

Handmade Jungle Books

Handmade Jungle Books

Pupils will work in pairs to create a double page picture that will become part of a giant ‘Classroom Jungle Book’ inspired by the artist Henri Rousseau. Using ‘The Jungle’ as our theme, pupils will slowly build up their page showing a scene from our story. Their final images will show life in the jungle, with animals camouflaged in the leaves, birds in the trees, as well as mans effect on these natural habitats. The techniques used will be rolling and scraping of paint, drawing, collage and finally pastels. The end result will be a beautiful hand made classroom book to show your school and also keep as a wonderful classroom exhibition piece.
